Institute of Supply and Materials Management signs MOU with IDB
Achieving targeted objectives via emphasis on the importance of Supply Chain Management, the Industrial Development Board entered into a Memorandum of Understanding on Supply and Materials Management on April 10. It was conducted as proposed by the Institute of Supply and Materials Management (ISMM) to promote Sri Lankan industries under the patronage of the Minister of Industries Dr. Ramesh Pathirana.
The implementation of this MOU will ensure the establishment of a basic policy framework so as to manage the supply chain in the field, while also making the process at the factories more efficient and productive.
Minister Ramesh Pathirana expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Institute of Supply and Materials Management. With a history of half a century in the profession, it is one of the leading Institutes that produces professionals in the field of Supply Chain Management.
He further added that it is essential to develop substitutes for imports and export manufacturing industries in the future. This will facilitate micro, small and medium scale industries to carry out the Supply Chain Management processes more accurately and efficiently.
The ISMM president, Jayantha Gallehewa thanked the Minister for leading the initiative to obtain Cabinet approval for declaring October 24th as the “National Supply Chain Day” each year from year 2022 onwards. Thereafter, “Advisory Notes on Curative Measures to Streamline Supply Chain Processes to Achieve Enhanced Productivity”, which was formulated subsequent to the international seminar conducted by the ISMM, was also presented to the minister by the president.
The officials of Ceylon Industrial Development Board such as, chairman Dr. Saranga Alahapperuma, General Manager P. L. U. Ratnamalala, Director of Engineering W. A. P. K. Nishantha, Project Coordinator, Senior Engineering Assistant Nandalal Lekamge and president of the Institute of Supply and Materials Management Jayantha Gallehewa, Immediate Past President Sarath Gamage, Vice President Major General Renaka Udawatta (Rtd), General Secretary Dr. (Eng.) Sanath Divakara were present on this ioccasion.
