Institute of Chemistry Ceylon to launch special programme
The Institute of Chemistry Ceylon (IChemC) will inaugurate an action programme, on Januaey 25, to enhance the contribution of its members to the economic development of the country.
The Institute of Chemistry Ceylon (IChemC), incorporated by the Act of Parliament No.15 of 1972, is the professional body of Chemists in Sri Lanka for the general advancement of Chemical Science and the practice of Chemistry in all its branches. It serves as the apex body to offer training programmes for the professional development of Chemists and to recognize eminent Chemists, by electing them as Members/Fellows and Chartered Chemists.
With the objective of improving the capacity and quality of Chemists, enabling them to make a better contribution to the economic development of the country, through providing specialized services to industries, in which chemical sciences are involved, the Institute has scheduled a series of programmes to be implemented from 2023. The key programmes are:
1. Inauguration of Secretariat for Professional Practice of Chemistry
2. Launching Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
3. Launching the activities under the International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development (IYBSSD 2022) proclaimed by the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
4. Introduction of new postgraduate degree programmes in Chemical Science
5. Conducting ‘Virtual ChemEX’ 2023 Educational- Industrial Exhibition and Trade Fair
The Institute has planned to conduct the Inauguration Ceremony for launching the above-mentioned activities with the participation of eminent Chemists, University Academics in chemistry and related fields, Industrial representatives, as well as the representatives of relevant Ministries, Departments, ITI, SLSI, other scientific organizations and UNESCO, FAO/UN and WHO.
