Inexplicable transfer of three docs from Army hospital without replacements irks GMOA
By Rathindra Kuruwita
The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) yesterday alleged that the functioning of the Army Hospital at Narahenpita had been disrupted by the sudden transfer of three civilian doctors without replacements.
GMOA Secretary Dr. Senal Fernando said that the number of doctors attached to the military was not enough to efficiently run the Army Hospital.
Thus, 38 civilian doctors had been attached to the hospital by the Ministry of Health, the GMOA Secretary said.
“Three of these doctors have been transferred without replacements. If the services provided by the hospital collapsed, the responsibility lies with the military and health officers that authorised the transfers,” he said.
Dr. Fernando said that the GMOA would meet the remaining doctors on September 16 to discuss the issues they faced due to the shortage of medical staff, etc..
Attempts to contact the army failed.
