By Saman Indrajith
State Minister of Indigenous Medicine, Rural and Ayurveda Hospital Development and Community Health Sisira Jayakody told Parliament yesterday that a drug that cured one patient could kill another.Participating in the debate on the no-confidence motion against the Health Minister, Jayakody said that antibiotics caused the deaths not only in Sri Lanka but also in other countries. “This is a very serious problem which cannot be solved by bringing no-confidence motions against the Health Minister.
This problem has been identified as an acute health issue in many other countries. Now, the efficacy of Western medicine is being questioned all over the world. We must find solutions for these problems by the means known in ancient wisdom. We must understand the truth that Western medicines have become the cause of death for many. We have many alternative methods of treatment and time has come to give due recognition to such methods,” Jayakody said.
