The Attorney General yesterday informed the Supreme Court that indictments had been filed before the Colombo High Court against former Western Province Governor Azath Salley under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR).

Indictments had been filed over a controversial statement made by Salley on March 09 at a press conference. Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris appearing for the Attorney General told the Court when a fundamental rights petition filed by Salley was taken up for hearing yesterday.

Salley was detained for questioning since March after being arrested by the CID.

He was detained to be questioned under the provisions of the Prevention of Terrorism Act.

The case was taken up before Justices Priyantha Jayawardena, Yasantha Kodagoda and A.H.M.D. Navaz.

The petition would be taken up for hearing again on July 29.
