India pledges support for livestock development here

The Indian government had pledged support for the development of technology and infrastructure facilities for the development of the livestock sector in Sri Lanka, a senior government official said.Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Gopal Bhagle had agreed to provide the full support of the Indian government to revive the livestock development sector here, the official added.

On several occasions, the Indian High Commissioner discussed the issue with Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera, and President Ranil Wickremesinghe himself chaired one of the discussions.

Under this arrangement, Minister Amaraweera represented Sri Lanka in The First Global Conference on International Year of Millet held in New Delhi, India from last 16th and concluded yesterday (19th).The Minister observed the factory of Mother Dairy, a leading dairy product company in India, yesterday.

Minister Amaraweera said, during a tour of the factory, that due to the high technology currently used in Indian livestock farms as well as the lack of cattle species that could produce more milk in our country, the Indian government had expressed its agreement to provide high quality cows to our country.
