India Celebrates 77th Independence Day

India is celebrating its 77th Independence Day today. On this day, people organise cultural programmes and seminars to pay tribute to the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for India’s freedom. The British Empire ruled India for 150 years through the East India Company, the trading company set up in Surat, Gujarat, in 1619.
