Independence Day celebrated in Kandy

KANDY – The 73rd Independence Day was celebrated in Kandy near the statue of the first Prime Minister D.S. Senanayake opposite the Sri Dalada Maligawa. The event was organised by the Kandy Municipal Council.
Mayor Kesara D. Senanayake garlanded the statue of the late Prime Minister. Diyawadana Nilame of the Sri Dalada Maligawa, Pradeep Nilanga Dela, Deputy Mayor of Kandy Ilahi Abdeen, leader of the opposition of the municipal council, Sena Dissanayake, and Kandy District Secretary, Chandana Tennakoon also paid floral tributes to the statue.
Some members and officers of the municipal council were present at the ceremony which was held in keeping with the COVID-19 health regulations.
