Hurrah! Parliament voted as one
For once, I watched the news, and almost shed tears of joy. For once our politicians spoke with one voice. In Rev. Senior’s words, lep’d to a single bugle and marched to a single drum. They voted en mass to vote the Cricket Board out. That we could get together on a single issue and be united is such a great achievement.
Cricket is one of the few things that gives us all joy. Big and small, rich and poor, Sinhala, Tamil, Muslim or Burgher, we were all one when Sri Lanka played cricket. Suddenly, after we were doing so well in cricket, we started losing match after match. We were all baffled and sad. Surely the players cannot be letting themselves down like that?
Then people started pointing a finger at the management. Little by little, a storm of protests erupted and it went as far as Parliament. Today to the pride and joy of all Lankans Parliament stood firmly with the people and voted en mass to push the Cricket Board out. What a great day for Sri Lankans to be united. We hope and pray this kind of unity will prevail and will happen again and again.
