HSBC staff put on alert as financial scams become prevalent
Recently, HSBC in collaboration with the Central Bank of Sri Lanka conducted an informative session for bank staff in Sri Lanka on financial scams prevalent in the country at the Bank’s head office in Colombo.
With the increase of financial scams in recent years creating awareness on scam typologies and understanding ways in which fraudsters operate is crucial to combat financial fraud.
The session featured guest speaker Dilan Siriwardana, Senior Assistant Director / Head of Intelligence Analysis Division 1 & 2, Financial Intelligence Unit of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. During the session, participants were informed of common scams, the best practices for protecting personal information and important ways to avoid and detect such scams. The session also highlighted the responsibilities of both financial institutions and the general public on the timeliness of reporting scams to local authorities.
