House to debate second reading of VAT Bill on Sunday
Parliament yesterday resolved to conduct the debate on the second reading of the Value Added Tax (Amendment) on Sunday (10 Dec).
As per Standing Orders, the House does not meet on Sundays. The Standing Orders would have to be suspended to convene Parliament on Sundays.
It gave the approval to suspend the Standing Orders for this purpose.
The motion to suspend the Standing Orders, in view of the Sunday debate, was moved by the Leader of the House Minister Susil Premajayantha yesterday and was approved by the House.
Accordingly, Parliament will be convened from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm on Sunday.
The approval of the Committee on Parliament Business for this purpose was granted on Nov 20.
