Hotels ordered to discontinue discounts on alcohol sales
The National Authority on Tobacco and Alcohol (NATA) has told hotels to stop granting discounts on the purchase of alcohol products forthwith. It has warned that such offers were a punishable offence.
NATA Chairman Dr. Alan Ludowyke has said it has received several complaints regarding hotels with liquor licenses offering discounts on the purchase of alcohol products, such as during “Happy Hour” promotions.
The NATA has pointed out that this practice constituted a clear violation of Section 37(2) of the NATA Act No. 27 of 2006 and that violation of the aforementioned section is liable to a fine of Rs. 50,000, and each director of the offending establishment will be deemed guilty of the offence.
The National Authority on Tobacco and Alcohol has also directed hotels to comply with all provisions of the NATA Act No. 27 of 2006 (as amended).
