The hospital network in the country is at grave risk of being crippled, therefore, we urge the government to impose a two-week lockdown failing which, not only Covid mortality but more deaths due to other diseases would also become inevitable, former Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Nihal Abeysinghe said on Friday..

He made this comment at a news conference convened by the National Peoples’ Power.

He said 50% of the patients who seek medical treatment at the Out Patients Departments (OPD) in most of the hospitals have been confirmed Covid positive and that could put the health sector employees also at greater risk.

He urged the government to take all possible action to avert the imminent danger.
