Hoping to strike gold…

Breaking into the international music scene, especially in the States, is certainly no easy task, but, as one would say, it’s worth a try…and that is exactly what Ruwini Ranrekha has decided to do.

She has released her maiden effort, in the USA, called ‘Live The Moment,’ under her new name, The GoldLine, and the Sri Lankan singer was quick to explain why the change of name.

“When I moved to the States and wanted to check out the music scene, over there, I felt that my real name, Ruwini Ranrekha, would be a kind of a tongue-twister, in that part of the world.

“Moreover, the meaning of Ranrekha, in English, is The GoldLine, so I’m cool with it, and so are all my colleagues, involved in this production.”

When Ruwini got to the States and experienced, firsthand, the excitement that the showbiz scene generated, she set her mind on getting the real feel of it.

“It was my dream to do a song, in the USA, and so I discussed the possibilities with my songwriter and we came up with the idea of doing this type of a song (‘Live The Moment’) for the American scene.

“While I worked on the melody, for the lyrics submitted by Lahiru Kasun, the music was composed by Kasun Dissanayake.

“It was all done, back home, in Sri Lanka, and I did the voicing, in the States, with a music video to compliment it, from Gymfea Productions, USA.

“And I need to add that Gymfea Productions, Director Joshua Clark, and Cinematographer Mike Kash, did wonders to make my music video dream a reality; also, Chatuta Roche and Zebrah Chan for helping me with this project”.

Since it’s a first time effort, in the States, ‘Live The Moment’ is mainly a streaming production, she added.

To make her presence felt, in her new home, Ruwini, initially, performed at various ‘open mic’ events.

“I had to do it to establish my name in the USA, and I also had to look around to find the right contacts since I am new to the American setup, and I’m glad everything is working out in my favour now.”

Ruwini also mentioned that her current YouTube channel, Facebook Fan Page, Instagram and TikTok, under the name Ruwini Ranrekha, will be changed to The GoldLine, with a new logo.

“I will be uploading all my new songs to the YouTube channel.

While in Sri Lanka, Ruwini performed with many leading bands, including Benjy and Aquarius, before leaving for the States.

She has also participated in local reality shows and came up with many Sinhala originals.
