Hirunika files challenge in Supreme Court against release of Duminda

Former MP Hirunika Premachanda yesterday filed an application in the Supreme Court against the Presidential pardon for Duminda Silva.

In her application, Premachanda has requested the court to nullify the presidential pardon. Silva was sentenced to death for the murder of Premachanda’s father in 2011.

Silva was the 11th defendant in the case filed over the murder of former MP Bharatha Lakshman Premachanda and three others.

The Attorney General, the Justice Minister and Duminda Silva have been named as respondents in the application.
