Herath left out of COPE
Prof. Charitha Herath, former Chairman of the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) has been dropped from the watchdog committee. The following is the list of members nominated to the COPE, released by Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, in Parliament, yesterday (03): Jagath Pushpakumara, Janaka Wakkumbura, Lohan Ratwatte, Indika Anuruddha Herath, D. V. Chanaka, Shantha Bandara, Anura Kumara Dissanayaka, Rauff Hakeem, Patali Champika Ranawaka, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, H Rohitha Abegunawardena, (Dr.) Harsha de Silva, Eran Wickramarathne, Nimal Lanza, S.M.M. Muszhaaraff, Nalin Bandara Jayamaha, S.M. Marikkar, Mujibur Rahuman, (Mrs.) Rohini Kumari Wijerathna, Sanjeeva Edirimanna, Jagath Kumara Sumithraarachchi, Premnath C. Dolawatte, Upul Mahendra Rajapaksha, Shanakiyan Rajaputhiran Rasamanickam, (Mrs.) Rajika Wickramasinghe, Madhura Withanage and (Prof.) Ranjith Bandara.
During his two-year tenure as the COPE Chief, lawmaker Herath handled several high profile cases, including Litro and the culpability of the Central Bank, Finance Ministry and the Monetary Board in the unprecedented financial meltdown.
