Herath at the helm of South Asian Region Table Tennis Federation

Kanaka Herath, the President of the Table Tennis Association of Sri Lanka (TTASL), was elected as the President of the South Asian Region Table Tennis Federation (SARTTF). According to TTASL, Herath had been supported by all six other nations of the region represented by officials from the Table Tennis federations of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Maldives, and Bhutan.

The regional AGM was held after the conclusion of the Asian Table Tennis Union AGM, which took place in Doha on October 3. Herath is attending the ATTU conference as a delegate representing Sri Lanka.

The Sri Lanka team too is in Doha competing in the 25th Asian Table Tennis Championships, where Muthumali Priyadarshani of Sri Lanka Navy created history by becoming the first Sri Lankan table tennis player (female) to reach the round of 16 in the women’s singles of any Asian Table Tennis Championship.

This is the very first time that the post of president of SARTTF has been conferred to Sri Lanka. In previous committees of the SARTTF Chandana Perera held positions as Treasure, Secretary, and Vice President. However, this is the very first time that the presidency has been conferred to a Sri Lankan.
