Heavy showers likely in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts

Showers will occur at times in Eastern, Northern and Uva provinces and several spells of showers will occur in North-central province. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in other areas of the island after 1.00 p.m. Fairly heavy showers above 50 mm are likely at some places in Ampara, Batticaloa and Badulla districts and heavy showers about 100 mm are likely at some places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.

Winds will be north-easterly or easterly and wind speed will be (25-35) kmph. Wind speed may increase up to (45-50) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Colombo to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar and from Pottuvil to Galle via Hambantota.

The sea areas off the coasts extending from Pottuvil to Galle via Hambantota can be fairly rough at times and the sea areas off the coasts extending from Colombo to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar can be moderate at times but strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.

The public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
