The Intertropical Convergence Zone (where winds from the Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere converge) is affecting the island’s weather. Due to its influence, the current rainy conditions of the island are expected to be enhanced.
Showers may occur in coastal areas of Western, Southern and Eastern provinces and in Mannar and Jaffna districts during the morning while showers or thundershowers will occur over most parts of the island after 2.00 p.m. Heavy showers above 100 mm can be expected at some places in Uva, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces.
Winds will be south-westerly or variable in direction and wind speed will be (20-30) kmph.
The sea areas around the island will be slight.
The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
