Melwa Group makes magnanimous donation to Negombo hospital

Health Secretary Dr. Maheepala Herath on Sunday (5) revealed that National Health Fund had Rs 1.5 bn.

Dr. Herath said that the funds had been donated by various philanthropists.

The disclosure was made at the Negombo hospital at an event held to mark the fifth anniversary of handing over of the two-storeyed building comprising 100 beds for children built at a cost of Rs 200 mn by Melwa Group of companies. The company entered into an agreement to maintain the facilities there for five more years as it has done since 2019.

Dr. Herath stressed the importance of having a system to meet the aspirations and requirements of the donors.

Melwa Director P. P. Muruganathan said that the company made this intervention on a request made by Dr. Lak Kumar Fernando.
