Head-on bus collision leaves 23 people injured

At least 23 people were injured when two buses collided at Kajugama, on the Colombo-Kandy Main Road, on Friday morningPolice Media Spokesman, SSP Nihal Thalduwa said a privately owned bus, travelling from Kandy to Negombo, and a state-owned bus, moving towards Mutur, from Colombo, had collided head-on at around 7 am.

Two children were also among the injured, the Police Media Spokesman said.The injured were admitted to the Wathupitiwala Hospital and police are conducting further investigations.

Road accidents are common in the area, especially when it’s raining, police said.The Meteorology Department has warned that rainy weather will continue in the coming days.Some 19,740 road accidents were reported in Sri Lanka in 2022, the police said in January.
