Uditha Egalahewa President’s Counsel told the Court of Appeal yesterday (1) that the IGP had told him that there was no evidence against High Court Judge Gihan Pilapitiya for him to be summoned him before the Nugegoda Magistrate.

Pilapitiya had been summoned before the Nugegoda Magistrate over an allegation of a telephone conversation with ex-MP Ranjan Ramanayake. The SJB MP was sentenced to four-year prison term for contempt of the Supreme Court. Consequent to the ruling, Ramanayake lost his Gampaha District parliamentary seat.

Counsel Egalahewa requested the Court of Appeal to direct the Nugegoda Magistrate to discharge Pilapitiya from the proceedings. The Revision application filed by Pilapitiya in the Court of Appeal will be next called on October 25.

The bench comprised Justice Sobitha Rajakaruna and Justice Dhammika Ganepola.
