HC grants bail to Nathasha hours after Fort MC re-remands her until 12 July

A few hours after Colombo Fort Magistrate re-remanded civil society activist and stand-up comedianne Nathasha Edirisooriya, arrested on a charge of insulting Buddhism, the Colombo High Court granted her bail.

The CID arrested Edirisooriya on 28 May, at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), as she was about to leave the country.

She was granted bail after a petition filed on her behalf was taken up before Colombo High Court Judge Aditya Patabendi yesterday afternoon.

Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris, who appeared on behalf of the Attorney General, raised no objections.

Earlier in the Fort MC she was re-remanded till 12 July, pending investigations.
