Hasali to meet Ruvi in the Girls U16 final

Hasali Gajaba and Ruvi Lewkebandara booked berths in the Under-16 girls’ singles final as they emerged victorious in their respective semi-finals of the Tennis Nationals 2020 at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association courts on Sunday.

The 14-year-old Gajaba, who featured in the women’s singles semi-finals a few days back, beat Vishmi Serasinghe 7-5, 6-4 in her semi-final.

Ruvi Lewkebandara edged out Denethya Dharmaratne in a three setter. After conceding the first set 4-6 she fought back scoring 6-1, 10-8 to reach the final.

Arjun, Chammika Over-45 doubles champions

In the men’s Over-45 doubles Arjun Fernando and Chammika de Silva emerged champions as they beat Priyankara Witanage and K. Sudarshan 6-2, 6-1 in the final.

 

Semi-finalists found in Girls U18 singles

Meanwhile, semi finalists were found in the Under-18 girls’ singles. Savini Jayasuriya, who was the runners up of this age category at the last edition and Oneli Perera who reached the quarter-finals of the women’s singles a few days back are the favourites.

Jayasuriya who also reached the semi finals of the women’s singles last week beat Nesangi Hemakumara 6-1, 6-1 in her quarter-final. Oneli Perera edged out Ashanthi Seneviratne 6-0,7-5 to secure her place.

Dewmini Warnasuriya emerged victorious in the match against Dahamna Methsandi as she scored 6-1, 6-3. Sethmi Sumanaweera advanced to the semis with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Tania Doloswala.
