Hasali, Sajida clash for Under 16 girls’ singles title
National Tennis Championship 2021
Consistent performers Hasali Gajaba and Sajida Razick will compete for the Under 16 girls’ singles title of the National Tennis Championship 2021 after the top seeds secured victory in the semi-finals of that age category at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association courts.
The Bishop’s College player Razick won her semi-final beating Dinethya Dharmarathne in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) yesterday to join Gajaba, who secured her final place on Thursday.
In her semi-final Gajaba beat Vishmi Serasinghe (6-3, 6-4) who was the singles champion of this age category at the recently held Colombo Championships. It will be her second straight final appearance in this age category for the Visakha Vidyalaya player Gajaba, who settled for the runner up position at the last edition.
In the 2019 championships, Gajaba reached the final of the Under 14 girls’ singles and settled for the runner up position.
Last year, Gajaba was the runner up to Ruvi Lewkebandara at the Under 16 singles.
Razick is the top seed and will be looking to commence the new-year with a title after being the runner up at the Colombo Championships. At the Colombo Championships, Gajaba was ousted in the semi final by eventual champion Vishmi Serasinghe.
