Harin won’t be arrested till 14 July – AG’s Dept. tells SC

Senior Additional Solicitor General, Priyantha Navana, PC, representing the Attorney General,S told the Supreme Court yesterday that SJB MP Harin Fernando would not be arrested over a statement he made on the Easter Sunday attacks, until 14 July 2020.
The SJB MP earlier filed a fundamental rights petition seeking an interim injunction preventing his arrest and detention by the police in connection with his statement on the Easter Sunday massacre. Senior Additional Solicitor General, Navana gave this assurance when the fundamental rights petition was taken up yesterday.
The next hearing will take place on 14 July.
The Senior Additional Solicitor General said an investigation was being conducted into MP Fernando’s statement that his father, on 20 April 2019, had urged him not to go to church as there would be a terrorist attack.
The Attorney General has instructed the CID not to arrest MP Fernando without his instructions.
