Harin sees Harsha as temporary Prez
SJB MP Harin Fernando yesterday (06) declared in Parliament that his colleague Dr. Harsha de Silva could replace President Gotabaya Rajapaksa as an interim measure until the country recovered from the current crisis and an environment conducive for national elections could be established.
National List MP Fernando urged all political parties represented in Parliament to take tangible measures to overcome the crisis or face the consequences. The former UNPer was critical of his own party SJB’s overall response to the developing crisis.
Contrary to claims, there was provision in the Constitution to decide on a replacement for incumbent President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. The MP insisted that Dr. de Silva was fully qualified to serve as the President.
MP Fernando urged the Members of Parliament to be prepared to make sacrifices in support of the national recovery efforts. The former minister assured the Parliament that he would forego one year’s salary and wouldn’t eat at the House canteen for the same duration. The MP said that unless they proved their readiness to change, lawmakers wouldn’t be safe on the roads (SF)
