Colombo High Court Judge Damith Thotawatte yesterday ordered that notorious drug dealer, Nadun Chithaka Wickremeratne, alias ‘Harak Kata’ be remanded until 26 April for the latter’s abortive bid to escape from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

‘Harak Kata’ was ordered to be detained at the old prison complex in Tangalle, which is currently being used as a detention centre.

Earlier in the day, ‘Harak Kata’ was produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court. Thereafter, he was taken to the Colombo High Court following a request made by the CID.

Officers from the CID yesterday presented indictments containing 22 charges against the accused.

‘Harak Kata’ appeared in court yesterday after spending 365 days, under detention orders, in CID custody.

The investigation is ongoing, particularly concerning an alleged escape attempt while the suspect was in the custody of the CID.
