The Hambantota International Port (HIP) yesterday (12) announced that in January and February this year there were six cruise ship calls at the HIP carrying over 6,000 passengers to Sri Lanka.

The Celebrity Millennium, largest of the cruise ships that called, sailing between Hambantota/Colombo and Phuket, Thailand, arrived at the port twice, on the 14th and 26th of February respectively. The Silver Moon, also bound for Phuket, called at the HIP on the 20th of February, arriving from the Colombo Port.

The January visits included two calls by Le Jacques Cartier, a class ‘A’ passenger vessel sailing under the Wallis Futuna Island flag, and the Riviera, which arrived in Sri Lanka from the Maldives. The Riviera set sail from the HIP to Phuket, while the Le Jacques Cartier visited the Galle, Trincomalee and Colombo ports.
