Hambantota International Port Team wins at CASA Cricket Tournament
Hambantota International Port (HIP), which has taken up cricket as a key sports activity for its employees, became runners-up at the CASA Cricket Tournament 2024. The annual tournament, played between members of the Ceylon Associate of Shipping Agents (CASA), is a much looked forward to event in the local ports and shipping industry sports calendar.
“With a bunch of amaterus in the side, we are glad to have finished runners-up on three occasions,” said Jeevan Premasara, Senior General Manager Human Resources & Administration at HIP.
The HR division, overlooks the port’s sports activities, and the management of the team is carried out by a four-member committee who is in charge of selection, practices and equipment supplies. The HIP team plays several friendly matches with other strong teams in the Hambantota district to keep their cricketing skills honed and gives them good batting, fielding and bowling experience.
The HIP team participated in the tournament under the invitational category along with teams from CICT, SAGT, SLPA, CWIT, Colombo Dockyard, and SL Customs. On their way to achieving the runners-up title, HIP beat CICT in the quarter-finals and CWIT in the semi-finals.
