Russian billionaire Andrey Igorevich Melnichenko, who met PM Mahinda Rajapaksa, visited the Hambantota International Port (HIP) during his visit to Sri Lanka last week. During discussions with the port’s top officials, he had shown keen interest in the potential to develop regional distribution of fertilizer via the Hambantota International Port.
“This is well in line with the port’s plans as the Hambantota International Port Group (HIPG) was already investigating possibilities in this regard,” said Lance Zuo, General Manager Commercial and Marketing of HIPG.
HIPG who has entered into a business venture partnership with a reputed fertilizer bagging operator, is now gearing up to launch fertilizer transshipment operations, which is another step closer to the port’s vision of becoming a regional transshipment hub for fertilizer and bulk business.
