Half of domestic abuse victims withhold truth when seeking treatment for their injuries

At least 50 percent of victims of domestic abuse who sought treatment for their injuries try to did not reveal the truth, Dr. Lakshman Senanayake, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist at the Castle Street Hospital for women, said.

“Most of these women say that they fell down and injured themselves. Even pregnant women face physical abuse at home and this can lead to many complications like stillbirths and severe bleeding,” he said.One third of the women, who face domestic abuse, contemplates suicide, Dr. Senanayake said.
