Half century by last man saves Moratu Vidyalaya

Number 11 batsman Lakindu Yahampath top scored with 52 runs for Moratu Vidyalaya to recover from being 56 for seven wickets at lunch to post 141 against Holy Cross College, Kalutara in an Under 19 traditional cricket encounter at Moratuwa on Tuesday.
The home team were in trouble at lunch after paceman Hivin Kenula, Sanuka Cheran and Himaru Deshan struck early. They lost two more wickets after the break to be precariously placed at 73 for nine wickets. That was when Yahampath joined Nishitha Fernando (7 runs in 43 balls) for a fine rearguard action. They put on 68 runs for the last wicket. Yahampath scored eight fours and two sixes in his 69-ball knock.
For Holy Cross Kenula completed a five-wicket haul. His 19 overs which included nine maidens cost him just 30 runs.
In their essay, the visitors got off to a shaky start losing four wickets. They were 64 for four wickets at stumps.
Also at Moratuwa, St. Joseph’s amassed 393 runs against St. Sebastian’s as four batsmen scored half centuries in the Division I Tier ‘A’ tournament match.
The Joes middle order flexed their muscle adding valuable runs to the total. While Yenula Dewthusa scored 86 runs (in 101 balls, 9x4s, 3x6s), Senuja Wakunugoda top scored with 97 runs (in 132 balls) inclusive of ten fours and two sixes. While open bat Abishek Jayaweera made 55 runs, skipper Lahiru Amarasekara scored 53 runs.
