Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) leader Rauff Hakeem has contracted the coronavirus. Hakeem has said via Twitter that he entered a treatment facility.

Hakeem has also urged those who came into contact with him during the past 10 days to take the necessary health and safety precautions.

Earlier State Minister Dayasiri Jayasekera tested positive for Covid-19.

Serjeant-at-Arms of Parliament Narendra Fernando told The Island that Minister Jayasekera had not attended last week sittings in Parliament but SLMC leader Hakeem was there on Tuesday. “Soon after the announcement came we took action to scrutinize all video footage of CCTV cameras and selected footage showing MP Hakeem’s entire stay in the parliamentary complex on that day. We identified all persons he had close contact with and instructed them to undergo self-quarantine. Among them are 15 MPs from both government and opposition. In addition Parliamentary Affairs Secretary Kumarasiri Hettige was found COVID-19 positive. His staff members and parliament staff members who had contacts with MP Hakeem and others too have been instructed to undergo self-quarantine,” Fernando said.
