Hakeem asks govt. to tell Israel to stop genocide in Gaza
SLMC leader MP Rauff Hakeem yesterday in Parliament called on the government to consider severing diplomatic ties with Israel unless it stopped its ongoing military operations in Gaza.
“On one hand, the government tells the world that the visit of Iranian President was a diplomatic victory and on the other hand it licks the boots of Israel,” Hakeem said.
“Universities the world over are rising up against Israeli occupation. Entire world abhors the horrendous crimes being committed by the Israeli forces in Gaza. This government should stand by the rest of the world and consider rescinding diplomatic ties with Israel.”
Foreign Affairs State Minister Tharaka Balasuriya said Sri Lanka’s foreign policy was to establish and maintain ties will all countries.
“Our foreign policy is to establish and maintain ties with all countries. However, that does not mean we have abandoned Palestine,” he said.
