Govt. urged to seek UK position on Naseby disclosure
The Wickremesinghe-Rajapaksa government should seek British position on the disclosure made by Lord Naseby in Oct. 2017, in the House of Lords, countering allegations of war crimes against Sri Lanka, Chairman of the Sectoral Oversight Committee on National Security, Rear Admiral (retd.) Sarath Weerasekera, MP, said yesterday.
The UK being the Chair of Sri Lanka Core Group at the Geneva-based UNHRC, should state its position, lawmaker Weerasekera said, pointing out that Lord Naseby’s disclosure, based on wartime diplomatic cables from BHC, Colombo contradicted the very basis of the UN report that blamed 40,000 deaths of civilians on the Sri Lankan military.
