Govt to issue no-sex casino licenses for 20-years

ECONOMYNEXTSri Lanka’s President Ranil Wickremesinghe has published rules to regularise gaming under a 2010 law, issuing licenses for up to 20 years, according to two gazette notices.A five year renewable license would cost 500 million rupees.

Businesses could also apply for longer periods in multiples of five years up to 20 years with fees paid up front.Licenses would have to make sure that  “soliciting for the purpose of prostitution” does not take place within the premises.Drunken or disorderly behavior will also not be allowed.

Sri Lanka enacted a Casino Business (Regulation) Act in 2010 but no rules were issued to regulate or to bring existing casinos under the law. Sri Lanka has at least two operating casinos.John Keells Holdings Cinnamon Life was among projects which were planned with a Casino.
