Govt. rescinds order summoning pregnant public servants to for work
By Saman Indrajith
The government told Parliament yesterday that it had rescinded the order that all pregnant women in the public service report for work.
State Minister of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals Prof. Channa Jayasumana said that a new circular to that effect would be issued by the Secretary to the Ministry of Public Services, Provincial Councils and Local Government.
In addition, the government had decided to allow other employees in the public service to work on shift basis, the state minister said.
He said all necessary measures would be taken to administer COVID vaccines to public servants below the age of 30 years.
The government recently issued a circular recalling all state sector employees to work from Aug 2. That circular would be amended by a new one permitting pregnant public servants to stay away.
