Govt. increases Cost of Living allowance for government servants

The Ministry of Public Administration announced on Thursday that it has issued a circular revising the Cost of Living (CoL) allowance.The Ministry said the changes were made, based on the proposals made in the 2024 Budget.

Rs 12,800 will be paid to government servants per month as CoL allowances from January to March. This is an increase of Rs 5,000.Another Rs 5,000 will be added to the CoL allowance from April, increasing the total payment to Rs 17,800.

The CoL allowance for pensioners will be increased from Rs 3,525 to Rs 6,025 with effect from April 2024.President Ranil Wickremesinghe proposed to increase the CoL allowance by Rs 10,000 for government servants.
