Govt has lost about Rs 50 million in revenue last year due to Motor Traffic Dept doctoring its records

Fourteen high-end vehicles have been released to the market by way of doctored records in the Department of Motor Traffic and the government has lost about 50 million rupees in taxes, an Auditor General’s report has revealed.The Department of Motor Traffic has a computerized system to record the vehicles imported to Sri Lanka, and this has been tampered with, the report shows.
Among the income lost by the government is in registration fees, luxury tax and customs fees.The Auditor General has recommended an immediate investigation and punish those responsible.This has been revealed by the AG in the 2021 audit report on the Department of Motor Traffic.
