Government declares October 24 National Supply Chain Day
The government declared October 24 “National Supply Chain Day” after Sarath Gamage, president of the Institute of Supply and Materials Management brought to the notice of the govt the need for declaring a “National Supply Chain Day” with the objective of improving the awareness and the importance of developing supply chains among local enterprises and entrepreneurs.
This was a concept of the Senior Vice President Jayantha Gallehewa who is also the incumbent chairman of the Professional Development & Training Committee.
ISMM was established in 1972 and completed its 50th anniversary on October 24 with an international seminar where the Chief Guest was Dinesh Gunawardena, Prime Minister. A Commemorative postage stamp was also issued on the occasion to mark the 50th anniversary.
ISMM is the pioneer in supply chain education having commenced their training courses as far back as 1982. At present it conducts over 12 training courses both in Sinhala and English commencing from basic courses and management level courses up to the Graduate Diploma in Purchasing and Supply Chain Management. It also conducts the International Diploma in Supply Chain Management under the Modular Learning System under license from the International Trade Centre, Geneva.
The Corporate Membership of ISMM with 3 years of executive experience relevant to the supply chain field is treated as equivalent to first or second class Supply Chain Management honors degree awarded by any university in Sri Lanka as per Circular No 46/90(i) issued by the Ministry of Public Administration.
