Gota back on Saturday?
Speculation was rife that former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa would return to Sri Lanka from Thailand on Saturday. Udayanga Weeratunga told the media on Friday that Rajapaksa would return to the country on Saturday. Rajapaksa left the country on July 13. He had traveled to the Maldives on a Sri Lanka Air Force plane, from where he flew to Singapore and submitted his resignation on July 13. After that, he went to Thailand and took temporary refuge.
Foreign media quoted Thai Foreign Minister D Pramuduvinai having said that former President Rajapaksa could stay in Thailand for up to 90 days as he still holds a diplomatic passport. Rajapaksa was staying at a hotel in Bangkok, where police have advised him to stay indoors for security reasons.
