Godahewa sees end of road for SLPP under Ranil
Opposition to resist ‘anti-people’ policies of govt.
By Rathindra Kuruwita
Opposition parties have agreed to close ranks to resist the anti-people policies of the government, Freedom People’s Congress member, MP Nalaka Godahewa says.
Godahewa told the media yesterday, in Colombo, that there were many serious problems regarding the anti-terrorism Bill, the IMF agreement, and the proposed Central Bank law.
“If you look at the draft law on the Central Bank, the Supreme Court has made about 45 alternative suggestions. Let’s see whether the government will amend the Bill accordingly. The Opposition parties have decided to defeat attempts to rush the Bill through the House.”
Godahewa added that the SLPP was now under President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s thumb.
“The SLPP elected as the President a person who had lost his own seat, and entered Parliament via the National List. And now, he is calling all the shots. He is replacing Governors and heads of institutions that the SLPP appointed. The UNPers are being appointed to top slots. It’s the end of the road for the SLPP,” Godahewa said.
