Gnanasara Thera sentenced to four years RI

The Colombo High Court yesterday sentenced General Secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) Galagodaatte Gnanasara Thera (28) to four-year-rigorous imprisonment for making defamatory statements about Islam eight years back.

Colombo High Court Judge Adithya Patabendige further ordered the Thera to pay a fine of Rs 100,000.

The Attorney General filed the case against Gnanasara Thera for causing religious and racial disunity in Sri Lanka through remarks he made at Kuragala Temple during a media briefing held on 30 March 2016.
