GMOF stands firm on internal democracy of unions and regular elections
The Executive Committee of the Government Medical Officers’ Forum (GMOF), which met via Zoom yesterday (16) opposed attempts to enable the office-bearers of certain trade unions to cling to their positions without election.
GMOF President Dr Rukshan Bellana said: “We learn that a couple of union executive committees are attempting to enlist the support of the health authorities to continue to hold power without the consent of the general membership.
“Such action is against the laws governing trade unions. We thank the Director General of Health Services for having foiled such attempts by certain unions and but we learn that they are seeking the help of those at a higher level to achieve their objective.
“But arbitrary decisions to extend tenure against the labour laws will lead to chaos in the health sector.
