GMOA urges President to issue ID numbers to citizens at birth
By Rathindra Kuruwita
The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has asked President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to provide National Identity Card (NIC) numbers to citizens at birth
GMOA General Secretary, Dr. Senal Fernando said that there had been a discussion yesterday at the technical committee on vaccinating children and the administrative issues that arise because children did not have NIC numbers.
“It was noted that some time ago the Family Health Bureau proposed that children be given NIC numbers at birth. We also proposed the same in 2020. We also proposed that the physical NIC be issued to children at 16,” he said.
