GMOA calls for vigilance against spread of virus during festive season
By Rathindra Kuruwita
The threat posed by COVID-19 was not over and authorities should be vigilant during the coming festive season, Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) General Committee Member, Dr. Prasad Kolabage said yesterday.
Dr. Kolabage said that the Omicron variant was spreading across the world and that Sri Lanka too had detected several cases.
“We are also receiving information from the grassroots that the cases are on the rise again and that there are differences in the symptoms shown,” he said.
Thus the government and the people should remain vigilant, he said. “The festive season is drawing near and it is likely that there will be large gatherings”.
“The Ministry of Health hasn’t done enough to remind people that the threat posed by the virus is not over. We have let our guard down and so far we have been lucky. But, luck can always run out,” Dr. Kolabage said.
