GMOA asks DGHS to prevent abuse of quarantine laws
By Rathindra Kuruwita
Director General of Health Services (DGHS), Dr. Asela Gunawardene needs to ensure that the police enforced quarantine laws in a just and impartial manner, Secretary to the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA), Dr. Senal Fernando told The Island yesterday.
The quarantine laws had been used to harass various parties that opposed the Kotelawala Defence University Bill, Dr. Fernando said.
“The DGHS is the authority in charge of implementing quarantine laws. We think it is obvious that these laws are now being abused to suppress people. It is also clear that the law is not being enforced equitably,” Dr. Fernando said.
Dr. Gunawardene seems to have devolved some of his powers to the Police, Dr. Fernando said.
