Global Music Award for ‘Happy Christmas Everyone’
Obviously, he is thrilled about his achievement and got in touch with us, immediately to break the news.
Says Sal: “The idea to write this Christmas song came to my mind when I was thinking of a special way to wish my friends, than just quoting from someone else’s card, picture, song, or anything else available. And, that’s how I ended up writing this song. But, to be honest, I never expected to win an award.
What makes Sal’s creation extra special is that it’s a one man effort – from the lyrics and music, and arrangements, to playing live instruments (guitar/bass/keyboards), doing lead and backup vocals, as well as mixing and mastering his creations.
Sal believes his one-man effort is what comes in for special attention, and that is the reason why he is a multiple American Global Music Awards winner, since 2019
“And to get evaluations and awards from these industry professionals is a blessing”, says Sal.
The multi-talented artiste won his first American Global Music Award, and German VDM-Plus (Verband Deutscher Musikschaffende) Award, for the song ‘Forgiving’, in 2019.
The second American Global Music Award came his way, in 2020, for the song ‘Ama’, the third was for the song ‘Out There The Sun Is Shining, in 2021, and the fourth was for his rock guitar instrumental ‘Young Lust’, in 2022.
His first award-winning song, ‘Forgiving’, was released as a single and Sal now has plans to make available an album of his creations, in 2023.
Sal embarked on a one-man band solo career, in the early ’90s, and, at the same time, was also involved with many different function bands/duos/trios, mainly in Germany, Switzerland, France and Austria.
He also did his thing with several rock bands – Foulplay and Babelfish (in the UK), and Kill Van Kull (in New York).
“I played with many Pink Floyd Tribute bands, including Floydian-Doors, The Bricks and Floyd Experience, in the UK. Unfortunately, I missed the chance to play with rock legend Roger Waters, of Pink Floyd, for ‘The Wall’ concert, which was to have been held on the Palestine/Israel boarder but cancelled due to political reasons”.
Sal Salgado was born in Colombo and grew up in Galle. He studied at Richmond College.
In 1982, he formed a band, called Professionals, but later changed the name to Zambezies.
He moved to Colombo, in 1986, and joined 20th Century AD and later also played with Heat, for a few months, until he left for Germany, in 1989.
