Githmi, Zaidh Zihar win age group singles titles

Githmi Fernando of Ave Maris Convent, Negombo and Zaidh Zihar of S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia won the Under 14 girls’ and Under 18 boys’ singles titles respectively of the 108th National Tennis Championships continued at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association courts on Monday.

Fernando beat Sandithi Usgodaarachchi 6-1, 6-3 in the final to claim the Under 14 girls’ title. She reached the final after beating Diyana de Zoysa and Venuli Jayasinghe (semi-final 7-5, 4-6, 6-0).

For the Under 18 boys’ title, top seed Zaidh Zihar beat Vichinthaya Nilaweera (6-4, 6-3) after ousting Hasal Ahangama (quarter-final 6-3, 2-6, 6-4) and Ganuka Fernando (semi-final 6-4, 6-2).
